Terrain
T e r r a i n is the land, the soil, the country. A terrain of statelessness and solitude.
The new choreographic work of Maria Koliopoulou, negotiates with the space, the territory and the borders. Three dancers create their own transformative ‘land’: moving through a rough landscape, they reach for safe places, fortresses of solitude and despair. They deprive each other of places and actions. They set barriers excluding and alienating each other. Moving together or apart from functional materials – crates - they build their own constantly changing landscape in which they can exist.
In T e r r a i n the choreographer extends her ongoing collaboration with the artist Yiannis Isidorou, the visual artist Adonis Volanakis and the set and light designer Thomas Economakos. Ioanna Apostolou, Konstadina Gogoulou and Christina Reinhart, dancers with their own distinguished trajectory in the field of contemporary dance are performing in the piece.
T e r r a i n premiered in April 2018 in the State Museum’s of Contemporary Art, Thessaloniki Centre of Contemporay Art at the International Contemporary Art Festival, Off Borders Festival, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports in the frame of the State Subsidies for Dance 2018.
