If I Can Not Dance,

I Will Not Be a Part of Your Revolution

In her new large-scale choreographic work, Maria Koliopoulou collaborates with 13 female performers of different ages and abilities with and without disabilities, seeking the profound pleasure of the moment, of exposure, of creation, of presence.

If I Can Not Dance, I Will Not Be a Part of Your Revolution suggests a celebration of female identity. The emphasis on the collective process and mutual support between the 13 women underscores the strength and transformative potential of a community. This is a collective journey of empowerment, care and encouragement in order for each femininity to find itself in a safe field that inspires it to unfold.

The rustling of words used in the performance is a ritual mechanism in the search for a utopia. It stimulates and supports a soundscape where the unfamiliar becomes familiar, where perception, memory and imagination are in constant interaction, where the field of individual presence meets collective images allowing another world of feminine pleasure and solidarity to emerge.

The work borrows its title from Emma Goldman
